Judicial Conduct Investigations Office

The Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) supports the Lord Chancellor and the Lady Chief Justice in their joint responsibility for judicial discipline.

We deal with misconduct complaints against:

  • Salaried and fee-paid courts judges
  • Judges and non-legal members of tribunals
  • Coroners

Misconduct means personal misbehaviour which is serious enough to require the Lord Chancellor and the Lady Chief Justice to take formal disciplinary action.

You can find more information about the types of complaints we can and cannot deal with here.

You can find information about how to make a complaint here.

Work to assess changes to the Judicial Disciplinary System

Following the publication in October 2023 of new statutory regulations and supporting rules, the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) will be conducting a review to assess how the changes are working.

If you'd like to offer any feedback about the changes, please visit our Rules and Regulations page for further information. We must receive your feedback before Monday 31 March 2025.
